Word Pictures

1.) Click on the "WebMuseum" link below.
2.) Select an artwork theme from the list.
3.) Select an Artist.
4.) Find a piece of artwork by your chosen artist to use for your project.
5.) Print the artwork on the printer.
6.) On a piece of paper, create a "word picture." At the top of the paper write the title of the piece of art and then write a list of words that describe your artwork. Be specific.
7.) When you have completed your "word picture" trade it with your partner.
8.) Use art supplies to draw your partner's "word picture." Draw what you believe the artwork would look like.
9.) Compare your picture with your partner.

Lesson Name:   Word Pictures
Objective:   Students will select a piece of artwork to print from an assigned Web site. Students will then create a "word picture," a written list of words that describe the artwork on a separate piece of paper. Students will then trade their "word picture" with a partner so that the partner can draw their version of the artwork, based on the "word picture" only.

Interactive Whiteboard Tip:   After students have drawn their artwork from each other's word picture, have them share it with the class. Invite each set of partners up to the front of the class and let them show the original artwork on the whiteboard while sharing their work.
