Click on the "Short Stories at East of the Web" link below and select a genre you are interested in.
After you selected your genre, select a short story to read. Then, write a 3-page book report on the story, containing a character description and a plot summary. Also include whether or not you liked the story and why.

Objective:
Students will read about different genres of literature. Students will then select one short story from a collection of stories and write a 3-page book report about it. The report must contain a character description, a plot summary, and their reasons for either liking or disliking the story.

Interactive Whiteboard Tip:
Display and read through the first Web site on the interactive whiteboard while students are taking notes. The second Web site can also be shown on the whiteboard while choosing topics. Choosing topics together as a class will ensure that topics are not duplicated. Students can also use the whiteboard to refer to pictures of their author and/or book.
