Criss-Cross Puzzle

Click on the "Word Bank" link below to select at least 30 words to create a Criss-Cross puzzle.

For the words you selected, write a definition for each. These definitions will be used as the clues. Type your words and the definitions in a word processor.

It is important to develop your word clues for DOWN and ACROSS words so that they are as helpful as possible for solving the puzzle.

Click on the "Puzzlemaker" link below and select Criss-Cross Puzzle.

- In the title of the puzzle, type your name.
- Leave steps 2 and 3 as they are.
- In step 4, type the word followed by a space and then type the clue.
- Click "Create My Puzzle!"
- Your puzzle must have placed at least 30 of your words; if it has not, go back and add more words and clues.
- When finished, print out your puzzle and the answer sheet.
- Puzzles will be distributed to the class for other students to solve.

Lesson Name:   Criss-Cross Puzzle
Objective:   Students will develop a Criss-Cross puzzle using some of the 1200 high frequency words used in everyday writing. Students will select at least 30 words from the list and write a definition to be used as the clue in the puzzle.

Interactive Whiteboard Tip:   While students are developing their word clues, have the word bank on the first Web site displayed on the interactive whiteboard. To avoid duplicating words, have students choose their words from the list and cross them out on the whiteboard using the pen/markers.
