The Adventure Story

Using the Project Gutenberg site, find and read an adventure story by one of the following authors:

- Jules Verne
- Mark Twain
- Edgar Rice Burroughs
- Jack London
- Daniel Defoe

1. Click on the "Project Gutenberg" link below.
2. Select an author from the list above.
3. Type the author's name in the left column.
4. Click Go.
5. Select one book by your chosen author.
6. Read the story. (It may be easier for you to print your story and read it on paper.)

When you have finished reading the story, write a short synopsis of it which includes: the major characters, the setting, the plot, and a list of other works written by this author.

Objective:   Students will read an adventure story and write a report about it. The synopsis will include the major characters, setting and plot of the story. Students will learn how to use Internet texts online and locate a few famous authors and their works.

Interactive Whiteboard Tip:   Have students use a word processor to write their synopsis. When completed, these can be shared with the class on the interactive whiteboard. Students can come up to the whiteboard to present the highlights of their report. Editing and proofreading can also be done at this time using the whiteboard's pen/markers.
