Coordinate Grids

Coordinates on a grid are given as (X, Y). This means that to find a set of coordinates you must first go to the X coordinate along the horizontal axis and then the Y coordinate along the vertical axis. Practice reading coordinates by playing the game at the first Web site below. Use the arrows to move the bug to the correct set of coordinates.

When you have completed the game, draw a map of your classroom using graph paper. Printable graph paper is available at the second Web site. Use colored pencils to draw a different colored dot on the grid for each item listed below. Down the right side, write in the set of coordinates in the corresponding color. You can use the lines on the bottom for a map key. Tell what each colored dot stands for.

Items to include on your map:
-Teacher's desk
-Your desk
-Classroom door
-One classmate's desk
-Closet
-1 other item of your choice
